About DARMA

DARMA is the Danish Association for Research Managers and Administrators. The purpose of DARMA is to support Danish research through the professionalization of research administration and management in Denmark.

DARMA is relevant for any individual working with support, administration and management of research and wishes to increase or improve their professional skills and build networks with dedicated colleagues in Denmark and around the entire world.

DARMA is committed to establishing and developing research administration and management as a recognised profession that is essential to research, because excellent science requires excellent support.

What DARMA does

Professional development for research managers is a dynamic process, and DARMA offers a range of possibilities at different levels of engagement, with the purpose to enable members to optimize their career development. Below are examples of activities and benefits for DARMA members:

  • Annual Meetings – DARMA's Annual Meeting (AM) and General Assembly is held in May-June each year and is the hub of DARMA's activities. The purpose of the AM is to provide an unique opportunity to get updated on the latest developments in the field through keynote addresses, panel discussions, special sessions and workshops, including hot topic round table discussions, and of course to network with other members.
  • Study Tours – members of DARMA can participate in study tours to national and international destinations several times per year. Annually recurring study tours go to Brussels, with a focus on EU funding, and Copenhagen, with various themes. Previous study tour destinations include Boston and New England, the United Kingdom, the American West Coast, and the University of Lund, Sweden.
  • Courses – DARMA offers two regular courses; introduction to research support, and a strategy workshop, both offered on average every 18 months.
  • Special Interest Groups – this is flexible tool, available to members that wish to focus on a special topic or theme over any period of time. Any member or group of members that consider or wish to start a special interest group need only to contact the board. The currently most active special interest group is focusing on staff responsibility for members who have a management position.
  • Westensee Workshops – are thematic full-day workshops that may be proposed and initiated by any member on any relevant topic. DARMA will support the workshop financially and handle announcement, registration, etc. Westensee Workshops always include a presentation and optional tour of the hosting institution.
  • Travel stipends – DARMA offers travel stipends for members that for example wishes to participate in international conferences.
  • Job ads – both national and international positions in all kinds of research management and administration are posted on DARMA.dk.
