DARMA's ny bestyrelse mødes første gang i næste uge

    1. DARMA har underskrevet the Hiroshima statement

    Mangler du lidt at læse?

In July 2021, the National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA) conducted a survey of research administrators, focused on remote work. The survey received 1,618 responses.

    Major Takeaways

The majority of respondents felt that telework had an overall positive impact on their organization. Of the 1,617 respondents who answered this question, 1,327 felt telework had a positive impact, 78 felt it had a negative impact, 80 felt it had no impact, and 132 were unsure of what impact telework had on their organization, if any. Little variation was found when this question was analyzed through the lens of position type (leadership level, director level, manager level, staff level) or research administration specialization (pre-award, post-award, lifecycle)

A summary report for the Remote Work Survey can be found online.

At læse rådene i små doser giver nemlig tid til at reflektere over rådet.

When Nature.com brings an article on Research Management and Administration (RMA) it certainly deserves our attention.

The article focus on how Tadashi Sugihara, a Japanese researcher changed to RMA and how research administration has moved from being seen as a supporting role to increasingly come to be recognized in academia as a profession in its own right. The article mentions that numerous professional societies worldwide help administrators with career development and networking and data from the recent RAAAP survey is cited.

Research Teams as a Goal: Anecdotal Tips and Action Plans for Research AVPs and other Research Administrators

Karin Scarpinato, Sr. AVP for Research at Florida Atlantic University and a colleague of hers has published a book, which may be of interest to DARMA's members.

In our normal jobs, we found that, even with all the professional development opportunities available, we were missing hands-on tools and strategies to address challenges that our team encountered.

So, a colleague and I created a start-up, "Research Ingenuity" (researchingenuity.com) to provide some of these hands-on tools, based on what we felt was missing in research administration.

We recently published a book, "Research Teams as a Goal" The book is accompanied by on-demand short-courses, workbook pages and worksheets that can be found at researchingenuity.com. In addition, we provide customized consulting.

Research Administration and Management is a fascinating profession that spans the globe with ever increasing layers of complexity. The leaders of SRAI and the Danish Association for Research Managers and Administrators (DARMA) recognize the importance of maintaining good communication, excellent training, and strong global partnerships. That is why SRAI and DARMA are delighted to announce our new Sister Society membership category. This new category presents the opportunity for full DARMA members to join SRAI at no additional cost and to attend SRAI events at the reduced member rate.

We believe this initiative will help build important bridges across our communities and allow information and knowledge sharing that will benefit the members of both organizations. DARMA members will have access to our Connect platform, SRAI’s popular monthly Coffee Talks, and other online resources. SRAI’s members will have an opportunity to meet many more research administrators with a unique perspective, explore differences and similarities in regulations and approaches, and learn about new developments in research administration that may be coming to the United States in the coming months and years (think Research Impact!).

This new program has been in the pipeline a few years and we are delighted to announce it is effective immediately. Details on the program and registration can be found on both organization’s websites, at https://www.srainternational.org/get-involved/become-member-rates for SRAI and at http://darma.dk/srai for DARMA. This arrangement is voluntary, DARMA members will need to complete a simple and brief registration to join and start taking advantage of the joint membership benefits. We hope all of you are as excited about this initiative as we are. Join us in celebrating expanding our international partnerships and please take a moment to welcome the new members to our community!

    Sincerely,

    Annedorte Vad, DARMA President

    Debra Schaller-Demers, SRAI President
