About DARK 

A research section at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, DARK is a world-class research group, focused on understanding the very earliest formation of stars and galaxies and their evolution, the nature of the mysterious dark energy, dark matter, compact objects, active galactic nuclei, and the formation and effects of cosmic dust. Activities at DARK focus on research, but other activities are also essential: communication (both internal and external), an extensive guest program, general administration, recruiting, and teaching.

We are looking for a dynamic, creative, and proactive individual to assist in all aspects of research facilitation. You must have a strong sense of commitment, thrive on responsibility and have a great organisational talent. Starting date is 1 May 2019.  


Tasks and responsibilities will cover many areas at a strategic level, potentially including: 

  • General administration:  
    • coordinate and lead a team of 1 secretary and 3-4 student helpers to ensure the smooth running of all administrative operations (Guest program, conferences, seminars, travel arrangements…) 
    • be the administrative front of the group in terms of internal communication with the rest of the institute and UCPH staff (interactions with the various departments of the university) 
  • Personnel: Arrange all aspects related to centre staff and facilitating hiring new staff including helping to scout and attract talented scientists 
  • Finances: Oversee accounts at the centre and ensure procedures are in place to facilitate best use of resources 
  • Communication:  
    • Coordinate and focus public outreach activities to maximize their effects 
    • Improve internal communication within the group to increase cross-fertilisation of ideas and overall team spirit and morale 
  • Fund-raising: Spot opportunities and encourage, coordinate and facilitate funding applications 


We are above all looking for a person with the right personality: Strong organisational talent coupled with a great overview and a sense of ambition for the section. The right candidate will quickly learn the needs and the routines of the group, will be able to spot where effort is needed in the short and the long term, and can work both independently and in a team. You are able to both think and interact at a strategic level, and at an implementation level. Previous relevant experience would be beneficial, but is not essential. The ideal candidate could also have a background and understanding of science and how scientific research is done. Fluency in English is essential and excellent writing skills would be an advantage. Basic computer skills are also required. 

Terms of employment  

We offer a 37-hour working week (including lunch) at a family friendly work place. We have flexible hours and can accommodate individual needs. The position is temporary running from 1 May 2019 (or as soon as possible after this) to 31 August 2023.
