DARMA invites members to a Westensee Workshop on Impact at SDU in Odense. The workshop will provide hands-on training on research impact and will be led by Julie Bayley, Impact Officer at Coventry University in the UK. See below for details.

The workshop is open to all DARMA members free of cost. Please register for the meeting using the "Register" link on this web page.

Research impact is an increasingly significant part of the academic landscape for both funding applications and national assessments of research (eg. the Research Excellence Framework in the UK). Whilst the impact agenda offers a great opportunity to extend the reach of research into practice, translating academic knowledge into 'real world' effects can be challenging for academics and research managers alike.

Julie Bayley (see bio) is a UK impact specialist and applied researcher. She is co-champion of the ARMA Impact Special Interest group and runs leads the ARMA impact training sessions.

Following a period seconded as Coventry University's Impact Officer - supporting bids, impact monitoring, staff training and institutional culture change - she has now returned to an academic post with a focus on impact.

In this interactive workshop, Julie will first talk about what research impact is (and isn't), how to plan impact at the funding stage, and how to build impact into the research process. In the second half, she will facilitate an impact planning exercise to help delegates put the learning into practice. The aim of the session is to equip attendees with a better understanding of what impact is and how it can be achieved, the skills needed to support impact, and how they can support their research community to 'do' impact well.

Practical information

The workshop takes place on 11 October, 12–16, in meeting room O96 (the link opens a clickable map) in the conference section at SDU's main campus in Odense.
