The role

We are seeking an enthusiastic Scientific Project Manager to join the CRG International and Scientific Affairs (ISA) team. The position is within the framework of two projects funded by the European Commission H2020 Programme. The first project, “Engineering of Mycoplasma pneumoniae as a broad-spectrum animal vaccine” (MycoSynVac)*, is coordinated by Prof Luis Serrano, CRG Director. The project aims to develop a novel veterinary vaccine chassis based on the bacterium Mycoplasma pneumoniae by combining systems and synthetic biology approaches ( The second project, that has just started on May 2017, “Open Responsible research and Innovation to further Outstanding kNowledge” (ORION)*, is coordinated by Dr Michela Bertero, ISA head, and focuses on embedding Open Science in research institutions and funding organizations.

The Project Manager will be responsible for the successful management and implementation of MycoSynVac and ORION projects, and will work closely with both Coordinators as well as the CRG offices for research grants, technology transfer, financial management, and communication. Additionally, the Project Manager shall participate in preparing and managing other coordinated and strategic projects run by ISA (

Job duties include:

  • Managing the projects to ensure compliance with EU regulations and deadlines.
  • Promoting communication and collaborations among the partners as well as with relevant initiatives, consortia, and other European projects.
  • Ensuring that reports, deliverables, and milestones are completed in a timely fashion.
  • Organizing project events, meetings, workshops, phone conferences, etc.
  • Acting as an advisor to partners on scientific, administrative, and horizontal issues, including ethical, legal, and social aspects.
  • Managing the content of the project websites and ensuring dissemination of project results to the scientific community and the general public.
  • Promote the preparation of new competitive proposals coordinated by CRG Faculty members.

About the team

The ISA Department focuses on strengthening the international and interdisciplinary dimension of the CRG and creating new opportunities in projects, training and collaborations for the scientific community. The team provides strategic advice and support to the Director; foster and coordinates institutional projects and collaborations; coordinate diverse training activities and implement all academic programmes at the institutes.


Who would we like to hire? 


·         University degree in life sciences or related fields, preferably with a PhD degree.

Required experience and skills

·         Research experience in an international environment.

·         Previous experience in project management.

·         Previous involvement in European or other international grants and/or in organizing scientific meetings, training events, and/or workshops.

·         Good knowledge of Research and Innovation policies.

·         Strong IT skills (excel, Power Point, content management systems, etc.).

·         Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

·         Good team player with the ability to work independently.

·         Precise, with attention to details, and well-organized.

·         Proactive, flexible, and problem-solving attitude.


·         Excellent command of spoken and written English

·         Knowledge of Spanish and/or Catalan is not necessary but would be useful.

The Offer 

·         Duration: full-time contract until May 2020, with potential to be renewed.

·         Estimated annual gross salary: A competitive salary will be provided, based on experience

·         Starting date: as soon as possible, preferably end of October – beginning of November.
