International Grant Officer – All Fields of Life Sciences

VIB is a center of excellence in Life Sciences in Belgium, Flanders, gathering 1.500 scientists from 66 nationalities in 8 research centers. We perform basic research in a wide variety of life science fields with a strong focus on translating scientific results into pharmaceutical, agricultural and industrial applications.

The Science & Technology Team is hiring an enthusiastic scientist to join our newly established International Grant Office in the support of international grant applications throughout the institute.

The candidate has a profound scientific knowledge in the field of life sciences and knowledge about granting bodies. Previous experience in the handling of grant applications (pre-award) is an added value. She/he is a team player and will operate under the leadership of the responsible of the International Grants Office.

Job Description

  • Guides scientists through the pre-application process
  • Oversees and supports the preparation, development, submission of grant applications including cost and budget calculations.
  • Identifies grant opportunities for VIB’s field of sciences
  • Collaborates with ‘satellite’ people at the different VIB research centers involved in grant applications.
  • Feeds regular newsletters with up to date information on upcoming grants
  • Attends & organizes professional conferences, meetings, seminars and workshops on international granting bodies.

Profile

  • PhD in Life Sciences or equivalent
  • Knowledgeable about recent evolutions in the field of molecular biology and life sciences
  • A keen interest in science policy and grant writing
  • Demonstrated experience in grant writing
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills, as well as strong editing and proofreading skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to coordinate projects from start to finish, multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines in both collaborative and independent settings
  • Demonstrating creativity and quality
  • Experience in databases and reporting tools
